 Legacy of Achievement Documentary Series

The GLP Youth Leaders have spent two consecutive years gathering footage and working on creating a documentary that highlights what they have learned about their heritage, A Legacy of Achievement.  They have also captured what it takes to prepare for success.  The underlining lessons from the past and present is the importance of HOPE, VISION, HARDWORK, AND SERVICE.

Heritage Awareness Podcast

Each year the GLP Youth Leaders have gone on an exploration journey to learn more about the history of African American's in the United States of America.  A history that they have found to be full of amazing stories of triumph, perserverance, faith, and love.  They found that there are many that invested in their future--Investments of time, hope, and even the investment of individual lives for the sake of future generations.  Every night the young people reflect on what they learned and experienceduring the

day and create a internet radio broadcast to

share with their community.  Using the important

principal of EACH ON TEACH ONE.

Career Highlight Blogs & Articles

One of the objectives of the project is to help youth

explore different careers and learn how to prepare

themselves for their careers of interest.  As they

research and learn about different career paths they

contribute as a writer to the GLP Career Highlight Blog.  They are also encouraged to write an article about one career and submit it to a  online teen magazine and community newspapers.

Legacy Boot Camp & Back-to-School Rally

The main goals of the GLP youth leaders is to learn, grow, lead, and share and this is done through the annual service project, Back-to-School Rally.  The rally provides an opportunity for children and youth to hear from "real models" in our communities and be a part of a community event designed to affirm and encourage youth as they prepare to go back to school.  The rally includes a backpack and school supply give away.  For the first time in 2009 the youth will also provide a 2-3 day Legacy Boot Camp which will include an Underground Railroad simulation, Life Vision Workshop, and career exploration.
