The Griot Leadership Project (GLP) is a youth lead project that exist to enhance leadership competencies and life achievement capability in African American youth. The project has three phases that provide a path for our youth to step up and step out as leaders in their communities.
I. Legacy of Achievement Exploration
During Phase 1 youth get to study and learn more about their individual and collective history. The youth focus on the great achievement and contributions of their forefothers and foremothers. They study the tragedies and most important the triumphs of our history. Phase I equips the youth with the knowledge that All things are truly possible.
II. Career Exploration & Leadership Development
During Phase 2 the youth explore their individual personality, passions, and visions for the future. They have the opportunity to explore different careers and understand all their future possibilities. The youth also attend the GLP Leadership Retreat were they learn skills and tools for effective leadership.
III. Celebrating the Past, Impacting the Present, and Preparing for the Future
The 3rd phase is the part of the project where all that the youth leaders have experienced and learned in phase 1 and 2 come together to help prepare and have a meaningful and productive heritage and college tour. It is during this final phase that the youth complete their service projects and pass on the knowledge that they have learned to other youth--each one teach one. They promote achievement and teach other youth how to successfully prepare for their future.
